Superfood for our second brain

Bludau

Our intestines consist of more than 100 million nervous cells and, like our brain or the spinal cord, it is the most important nervous system of our body. It regulates complex biochemical processes and is in direct contact with our brain. We could say that they control each other. If we have a balanced diet, we provide our intestines with the fuel they need to work properly. If we provide them with inferior quality food, such as sugary or industrially processed food, they won't function properly and can become ill. Both colon cancer, which is the second cause of death by cancer in Europe after lung cancer, and chronic inflammatory diseases are strongly influenced by our diet. Food of animal origin, especially meat, increases our risk of developing intestine cancer and chronic intestine diseases. Also, industrial sugary food and products, such as soft drinks, as well as animal fats produced industrially are harmful to the health of our digestive system. On the other hand, basic foods made from whole cereals, pulses, fruits, vegetables and dried fruits are superfoods for our second brain, because those five groups of food contain everything required for a healthy microbiome, in other words, our intestines’ bacteria and enzymes. Indeed, “probiotic” or “prebiotic” food that we can find in supermarkets is purely a question of taste, as they do not affect our intestinal activity. However, sauerkraut, whether fresh or preserved, has a positive and proven effect on the intestines’ microbiome.
